X Games 14 Schedule

9 07 2008

The X Games 14 is fast approaching and I wanted to let everyone know the schedule, and also have it in a easy to find place for myself, so I posted it below. I bold faced the Rally events but I am not sure if the practice rounds will be televised(*fingers crossed*).

All times WERE listed in Pacific Time but I am an East Coaster and I manually changed them all. I know it doesn’t sound very hard but it was pretty tedious. You can view the Pacific Times here at EXPN.com.

A Luxury Tuner Special: Wald Bentley Continental GT

9 07 2008

It’s been a long while, I shouldn’t of left you….without a dope post to read through. Read through, read through.

Sorry, it was just stuck in my head this morning and it fit what I was trying to say. The holiday and just the past week in general have kept me from posting but that should be much better now. I did find a dope post those that you can read through but it’s about a car that I wouldn’t normally car about, a Bentley.

Now don’t get things crossed, I love Bentleys but it’s not a car that I could see myself driving, even with on the off chance that I could actually afford one(I can’t….ever!). This high roller was all tuned up though. It is the Black Bison addition of Bentley’s Tuner Special.

That is just plain slammin’ and I am flat out amazed by this thing. I would drive this as a daily driver if it was bright yellow with brown polka dots on it. Full details have not been released but rest assure that I will be getting them.

Ford has failed before, but this could avenge them

3 07 2008

I am not a Ford fan by any means. I like the older Mustangs but their new models are just so lame. Under powered, and low quality to the point where I feel like I am driving in an enlarged Hotwheel.

I was very surprised to hear that they decided to beef up the existing line up by making the Focus more of a tuner car(they needed one). The RS apparently is going to be pushing around 280hp to compete with the STI(which I think is sort of a longshot). I don’t think it will be anywhere near the STI but from what I have seen, it seems like they are giving it a good run.

Still, I would never EVER choose this:

X Games 14: July 31-Aug. 3, 2008

2 07 2008

Being a Subaru fan and a car fan in general I am amazed that I almost forgot to post about the X Games coming up featuring the Rally competition. Thanks to a friend, Chris, who actually pointed it out that I should mention the games here.

The X Games are held in Los Angeles from July 31-Aug. 3, 2008 and as in previous years the participants in the X Games will be influenced by driver performance in the Rally America events held prior to the popular action-sports competition.

I will keep an eye on this and post the TV schedule when I hear it. If you didn’t watch last year then I can tell you there was a lot that you missed. Such amazing races and close ones at that. There was a last second DQ, cars hopping over others, and just some nasty driving unlike I have ever seen. I think I am going to go drive right now. ;)

New things from Subaru…I told you I was bias.

2 07 2008

I think most of us will agree that a turbocharger just sounds sick. In my opinion it is what I want to have standard for all my cars in the future. Vrrrrrrrrmmmm Pssssssh!

Being that most of the time turbos are used as go fast bits, you usually get less from the interior and the overall drive of the car. This is not the case with a Subaru. These vehicles are all equipped with AWD, most models have an option with a turbo(for MPG and for MPH, ha ha), and they have the interiors and drive to match. Why wouldn’t everyone want to get their hands on this?

Toyota sure does. Yes, Toyota increased their stake in Subaru once more due to Japan lifting a ban that prevented this in the past. Toyota now owns over 16% of Subaru(which is up from their previous 9%) since Fuji Industries sold them 61 millions shares.

What this means for us…

Subaru now is teaming with Toyota on a few projects, the first and the most exciting that I have seen is the possibility of a rear-wheel drive coupe. Supposedly it is due to have about 220hp but I am seeing rumors from different sources mentioning a possible insertion of the STI engine into one of these little guys. Base price being estimated at around $20,000. Not bad, not bad at all.

2009 Dodge Challenger: Retro again? Can’t Wait!

1 07 2008

So much muscle! The look that is.

I know, I know. I just talked about the Camaro that is coming out and made myself seem like a school girl that was getting ready for the prom, but this thing just looks #@%&’n mean. I wouldn’t want to deny it that same reaction that I gave to the others. Unfortunately, from rumors it seems this may be a dulled down version, but here’s hoping for more.

In the article here by Auto Blog, you will see that this baby is equipped with some style. Now I am not a domestic car kind of guy but I would not say no to this machine. Especially with the R/T package and sporting those pin stripes just shoots everyone back a couple decades and for the most part it is awesome.

Truthfully though, these new remodeled retro styles seem a bit dumbed down. The appear to be missing the curves that we look for in today’s market and the power has yet to impress me from the majority of these modern remakes. I am hoping Dodge(and the rest of the U.S. manufacturers) realize that they have a lot to compete with, and I hope the power and performance of these throw backs is the first step.

2009 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart: We have been waiting Mitsubushi

1 07 2008

I have owned my WRX for over two years now and I can honestly say that it never gets old. Going to work, leaving work, or just cruising around became so much less of a chore once I made this purchase. I think Subaru hit the nail on the head with their line up of the Impreza, followed by the WRX and then obviously the STI. Having that mid-range vehicle really allows those that want to have some power to be able to still work with a budget.

What confused me in the past though was that the main competitor to the STI, the Evolution, never really had a more gas(and wallet) efficient, mid-range brother. Finally Mitsubishi jumped on board, and with a vengeance.

This little rocket is packing 237 hp with 253 lb-ft and is a modest 130lbs lighter than the Evo. This is a sweet package to own. A slight increase over the WRX’s numbers is just what they needed to make this desirable to that younger crowd but also gets those of us that feel like we should probably grow up drooling too. I think Mitsubishi really caught my eye with this one.

Although I am not a huge fan of the look, it still is pretty sleek and stylish. Truthfully, this does not change my mind at all about my car. That is still the best purchase I have ever made, but it’s nice to see those Mitsu enthusiasts have a more affordable option over the Evo.
